Our Scaffolding division has erected a bespoke curved seating gallery for an immersive exhibition at Norwich University of the Arts (NUA).

Entitled Gutted, the exhibition has been created by award-winning artist Laura Wilson, and comprises a script, performance, film, and audio-soundtrack with a narrative which explores gut processes, instincts, and ecosystems.

Anglian has erected a large sculptural amphitheatre for the exhibition. Comprising three tiers positioned in a tight curve, the scaffold structure follows Laura’s design to fill the gallery and provide maximum space for the exhibition and seating. Construction took a team of two scaffolders three days and used a series of nine towers over 2.6 metres high, each connected by splays. Named Ladybower, the seating was inspired by the two circular spillways which regulate the water levels in Derbyshire’s Ladybower reservoir.

“This was a great project to work on and something a bit different for our team to get their teeth into. We relished the challenge of designing and building the large curve and tiered seating to meet Laura’s brief and fit within the confines of the room. We’re really pleased with the finished result which we hope will enable visitors to fully immerse themselves in the exhibition.”

Wayne Sampson, senior scaffolding commercial manager at Anglian

The exhibition is presented in partnership with East Gallery, Norwich University of the Arts for the 21st Architectural Humanities Research Association International Conference Body Matters.
