Anglian is using an innovative labelling system using QR codes to make project files easily accessible on-site while also cutting down on paper. The initiative, which ran as a highly successful trial for Anglian’s asbestos division, is now being rolled out across other areas of the business. Anglian is the only company in the South of the UK to utilise the labelling system.
Anglian originally began using QR codes on-site for asbestos surveys last year. The system, developed by Start Software, uses an individual QR code which is displayed within the premises and enables any contractor working there to scan it with their phone to see all documentation relating to the site. This provides easy access to reports such as the asbestos register which outlines the location and extent of any asbestos containing materials within the property, as well as other documents such as asbestos survey reports, management plans and site floor plans. By hosting all the documentation electronically, contractors can ensure they are working safely using the most current information.
To date, the company has transferred more than 20 sites onto the innovative labelling system. Following the successful use of QR labelling for asbestos projects, Anglian is now expanding the system across its other divisions starting with scaffolding where it will be able to host site files and drawings.
“The QR code labels have revolutionised the way we store records for the projects we’ve worked on and how contractors can access information on-site. As a business, waste is very close to our hearts (Anglian has a dedicate waste recycling division) and we’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment. We’ve gone from having huge folders of printed documents to providing everything electronically which can be easily scanned through to find the relevant page for the individual visiting the site. Based on success within our asbestos division, we’re now rolling this out across other areas of the business which typically rely on storing pages and pages of documents such as drawings and compliance certificates.”
