2,756 Tons of Waste Removed
14 Weeks

Anglian were awarded the demolition of the student accommodation and disused car park at Mary Chapman Court, Norfolk. Norwich University of the Arts were looking to redevelop the site into new first year student accommodation, alongside a lecture theatre and teaching facilities. Once permission had been granted for the redevelopment, the Anglian team was able to commence work.

Asbestos removal and soft stripping took place first to prepare the buildings for complete demolition. Two weeks before the completion of these works, our Scaffold division erected all required scaffolding protection to aid the demolition works.

After the internal strip out phase was complete, we bought in a 24 tonne demolition spec excavator to munch out the central concrete walkways, making room for our 22m high reach excavator to get into the site. Once the high reach was on site, the real demolition works could begin and it didn’t take long for the building to be reduced to rubble. The rubble was removed from site and a complete clearance service was provided, which allowed teams on site to install 40 tonnes of propping and formwork in the remaining basement, to support the retaining wall which runs along the river – this took 167m3 of concrete.

“It was a pleasure to have three of Anglian’s divisions involved in this prestigious project, in the heart of Norwich City Centre.”

14 weeks later, all work was complete and subsequently the site was graded then left for the new development to take place.
